SIMPLY CRAZY

WARNING: Blogger realness ahead...okay mostly ranting!!

Never in a million years I would have thought I would be inspired by designers in my life, but thanks to Instagram and Tumblr I was pretty much front row at all the shows during NYFW, lol! A lot of them hit "simply crazy" on the head so I wanted to show you what I'm talking about.

Now I've been getting some emails (some good, some angry) asking if my style is changing and I really wanna explain to them it's not that it's changing but more evolving into something better, so pull up a chair and listen up sweet cheeks...
I started VintageVirgin almost 3 years ago when I was 27 as a Mommy thrift store junkie living in a vintage world of craziness. The way I grew up I was pretty much sheltered from the outside world when it came to shopping in malls/department stores and the high prices give me crazy anxiety anyways so I avoid them as much as possible still to this day. Vintage will always be my life and my one true love but Mama's not getting any younger and I've been really maturing my style over the years, right before your very eyes, POW! Like it's weird how certain things I used to love makes me cringe now. It's called "growing up" I guess and personally I feel happier! Just know no matter what I wear new or vintage, I going to put together an amazing outfit regardless!
Sooooo all this selling out to sponsors mumbo jumbo don't mean shit to me! Yes I have sponsors but I feel I only work when the ones I love and know will benefit my vintage wardrobe. I know what the fuck I'm doing and I choose everything I wear...no puppet strings here boo! I didn't start this blog saying, "Hmmm I want sponsors and sponsors only." I honestly wanted to share my style with you and make connections with other bloggers like me.Which I have achieved through social media and I'm so very thankful for that everyday!

Now the reason I want to join an agency is cause you don't see all the life changing emails I receive on a daily. This blog has gotten bigger than me and I need help in the business department so I won't be fucked over and to be guided in the right direction. I didn't ask for this cause technically I'm just a stay-at-home Mom who takes pictures of herself, if you look at it from my point of view. I do everything myself from taking the pictures to the emails to the promoting on social media networks, on top of trying to raise my son and take care of my family. So you should be happy for me and the rewards I receive for all my hard work, not beat me down. No two bloggers are the same so never compare yourself to any blogger...I don't care if you've been blogging for 3 years too, we are not the same.
I'm am beyond humbled by this experience and will remain the same person inside because that's just who I am! I'm not the sheltered Texas girl anymore...I'm a woman now! So you can either choose to accept it or FUCK OFF!
For those who do choose to accept, THANK YOU so much for all the support over the years, new or old you've been there for me and I will continue on this journey as long as you'll have me.

Tell me how you feel...

kiss kiss,
Virgin

*UPDATE: I will be active and answering any questions or concerns on this post only just for you.

I love your sense of style, whether or not it's cray-cray-crazy or just simple-crazy! All I know is that I stumbled over your blog a couple of months back, and it effin' blew me away!
For the first time in years I was actually truly INSPIRED by a blog, suddenly I actually started caring about thinking creatively again! I thank you so much for that and I know you'll exceed all expectations no matter what tasks lie ahead of you!

Lotsa love from Sweden, Kram!!!

Sale out!! Clear and obvious!

This is what money does to people! They loose their creativity! The main reason I started liking your blog was you were different. Now you just blend in with the rest of the bloggers! Congratulations! Now you can shop at malls!

Before I jumped into the fashion scene and I used to stand out. Then I started wearing the designer clothes and getting into the trends. Then one day I was at a fashion event and realized that I didn't stood out anymore and I blended in so well with everyone. And I felt depressed. I said to myself, " What happened to my style!" This is exactly what is happening to you!

Just be yourself thats all that matters! And if you get repped by an agency...that would be amazing too!

What pieces you used to love make you cringe now?

Jessica VintageVirgin said...

Sorry anon but you are so WRONG and I assume you're the same person who wrote the 3 comments back to back. I'm going to be 30 and no longer feel comfortable dressing like a dirty 12 yr old. If that makes me a sellout so be it. I'm happier than I've ever been so thank you for the feedback and I am sooooo thankful someone like you, who puts people down, no longer follows me! Which I don't understand how you even read this, if you're not following me, lol!

I guess you will lose some fans/friends and gain some more, thats also part of growing up though right?!

There is no doubt that you are creative and people are drawn to that, keep up the good work!

Anonymous said...

So you are basically calling people who wear vintage head to toe a dirty 12 year old kid? Someone is going to feel insulted! I feel sorry for you my dear. You must be going through some life crisis or something.

Jessica VintageVirgin said...

Hahaha wow anon you're still here hanging on my every word. I thought you didn't follow me anymore? I'm not insulting anyone cause I said me and can only speak for me. I'm growing up dear, deal with it or continue to cry about it on my message board.
You're dismissed, thank you!

Thank you Helena, Julia, Nico, Bri and Grace for you positive feedback and very thankful for followers like you guys!

And I cringe about low cut items or things that's considered sexy. No regret though, lol!

Don't really get where all the hate is coming from. The realest thing about you to me is the way you write. It is always DEAD HONEST and true. That is what has always been consistent and your style as well. You are gorgeous, have an amazing face and body so stuff will look good on you regardless. It just seems like Anon is trolling for the sake of trolling. Bit sad actually.

Jenae said...

It seems to me that anon is jealous of how fabulous you are. They'll deny it, but people are usually cruel because they want something you have.

You have some seriously fantastic stylings. Keep on growing, it's a good thing.

Thank you so much Michelle and you couldn't have written it better!
It's okay to dislike what someone else is doing but once you take the time to write someone about it, then it's just a personal problem and comedy for the day to me!

Aww thank you Jenae and my point exactly! I didn't say I was going to stop wearing vintage, just going to be wearing it more sophisticated and modern.

hey, no need to explain or even defend your decisions. there are people who will always find a reason to give you shit, but who really cares about those? keep on keepin' on - the way you see fit.

Jessica VintageVirgin said...

Thank you so much for your support duckalicious! Sometimes you have to address certain things and shut it down to move on. I wanted everyone to know my agenda of this blog so we can have no more of this nonsense in the future...if that make sense.

You're very welcome. And another thing. New opportunities mean more money for you, which means a bigger college fund for your son. TRUST & BELIEVE that Anonymous ain't gonna be helping you pay no dang tuition chile. She/he ain't even thinking along the lines of this also a family decision much less a wonderful opportunity for you personally. I don't have kids but stuff like this puts me in a place to say something.

Ok rant over. Carry on. LOL.

You definitely shouldn't have to justify your style. You still have such a unique style so who gives a crap what anyone else has to say! You should always come first. Besides, every vintage junkie has a period of time where vintage isn't as prominent in their lives but honestly WHO CARES! You are totally repping your style and are still the most awesome momma I know. You definitely don't need to defend yourself and how your style has changed. You're still rad and most of us will be fans, regardless! xoxoxo

From one Texas girl to another: Your blog is an inspiration. I understand the growing up thing. Sometimes I look at my old style and think it's great, while simultaneously thinking "I would never wear that now"....Don't let inter-web wieners get you down, they are truly pathetic.... follow your own path. You're LIGHTING THIS PLACE UP GIRL.

hey jessica,
congrats on all the success on the blog! its serious hard work!
i really dont think being inspired by designers or wearing designers is selling out. especially if you put you own spin and not wear the look head to toe right off the runway. i can see that your style is maturing, but no matter what you always put your twist in each outfit.

I still love your blog, and I think you should be proud of what you've accomplished!

Another one, sending her love, from Sweden! :) Go on, stay strong, we love you

I don't care if you wear a vintage sweater or a topshop one, I'm interested in how you combine it and give your "special vintage jessica vibes" to it! I think every style develops, that's something totally normal. I do recognize bloggers who just want to be sponsored and wear what the companies send them but you're definitely not one of them! I have, I do and I will always love what you wear so don't give a fuck on other peoples opinion and continue wearing what you want and of which brand you want!
Much love from Germany xxx

Love your blog, have read it from the beginning to present day and I too can say my style is constantly evolving and changing. You can bet your sweet ass if I had a successful blog and sponsors were interested and their shit was off the chain I would be welcoming them with wide open arms. I know it's cliche, but haters gonna hate! People are jealous and waste time wishing it was happening to them instead of making it happen to them. Keep on keeping on and doing what you do cause I love it!

How can someone have an opinion about you? I'm new to your blog so I haven't witnessed the evolution of you but how can someone have an opinion about your personal style? Personally I've never been one to care about other peoples opinion of me, that seems like something they will have to work through on their own...let them stew. Congrats to you and all your blessings!

I am going through this faze where I am trying to find my niche. As I get older my style has changed dramatically and I wondered why. It is called growing up and it's so scary because life is ever changing. And as a woman we are constantly changing, from girl, to woman, to mothers and there are millions of more evolvement after that... Lord knows I'm looking forward to menopause!

People are so quick to shout "sell out!" - do they not stop to think that companies are offering you clothes because of your amazing unique style which has made you stand out from the crowd? And if the tables were turned, I'm damn sure they wouldn't be calling themselves a sell-out.
I've been reading your blog for yearsss and your style still inspires me, whether you wear head to toe vintage or not. Please never stop and fuck the haters <3

You can't always make everybody happy, girl. As long as YOU'RE feelin' it, so will LOTS of other people. MORE POWER TO YOU! In my eyes, you remain one of the few blogs I can check for authentic, original fashion. You're maturing, but I still expect to see some crazy-ass sh*t on here and will keep comin' back for it!

With admiration and healthy dose of jealousy,

Girl. I've been following you since DAY MOTHER FUCKING ONE. And on day 990est, I STILL FUCKING love you & believe in you.

Style is supposed to evolve and change and create a representation of our lives as we progress in life. Our mothers don't rock crop tops and blue eyeliner (hopefully) like they may of in the 70's/80's. In response to people expecting you to remain this girl who loved vintage and only vintage, clearly do not understand true style evolution. Fashion is art- it's what molds up, creates us. But style is our expression. You, throughout these past two and some change years, have opened up your doors to watch you grow. How awesome is that? People should admire and feel encouraged.

Thanks for being an amazing artist and staying true. Day in, day out.
xx boo boo.

I absolutely love your unique, crazy, inspiring style. It is so fucken awesome! Don't listen what those mofos say, they are just stupid people trying to put you down. By the way, I had no idea you were 30! You look so young :). Thank you for being who you are.

Jieasa said...

But... what's changed about your style besides the price tags? Fashion evolves, so why wouldn't a person's style?? I don't get some people, I just don't understand.

Liz said...

I totally get what you're saying Jessica! If people don't expect your exterior to grow and change as much as you grow and change personally...well...then they are just dumb m*therf*ckers! I've always been a vintage lover as well..and when I was younger I was drawn to the pieces that screamed certain eras or were so ugly they were awesome. But getting older and wiser(I just turned 30 in May), I have really honed into what I REALLY want to wear in vintage (and in new) clothing. I've learned to edit my vintage collection to pieces that really fit MY style. I've also started looking at shopping vintage just like shopping new high end designer. I'm buying for longevity and wearability, therefore I'm buying less filler pieces for my closet and more investment pieces. I fully believe that being a vintage shopper is an art form and some people have it and some people don't. You, dear girl, have it and you will never lose it. Keep up the good work on your blog and keep kickin ass and takin names!

I've followed you for a while and I have noticed that your style (and more new stuff) has been showing up on your blog. Who cares? I thought you were amazing with your thrift store finds and you are amazing with the new stuff. I would say that you don't have to respond to criticism yet, as a public figure now (congrats) you do. You've done well and responded gracefully - I am so proud of you. I love that you represent and provide a beautiful portrait of the black american woman. !!!!! do you !!!!!

I love that your style is evolving, because styling things is an ART! and Fuck anyone who can't get on board with that.Yes,as we get older we do change some,I am muthafcken past 40,and I still continue to dig cool things and collect vintage and mix my high fashion with it all. It's all a part of the fun.Keep doing you and the new direction is still you just evolved. The same people would say you are boring if you the stayed the same,so fuck em.Sorry for the long post...but I encounter shit like this from alot of people that knew me back in the day.I am also a Mom, who holds down a vintage clothes business online, and it is damn exhausting,so Kudos to you for enlisting help :) one day I will have to let my control freak thing go and hire help. But shit I will continue to follow and read your blog, because it is inspiring to another sistah doing her thing..I say congrats! :) and fck all haters, just sayin..

As a young mom trying to start up a blog, I see you as one of my greatest sources of inspiration. I've been following you since I don't know when and I've always admired your style. The fact that your style evolves is one of the things about you that I like the most, nothing so boring like someone who keeps recycling themselves. I'm still searching for my own personal style and damn girl, I would be happy if I even looked half as good as you!

Keep goin' vintage poet! Who said creativity was a question of brand or price? You do with what you have, you always did... I see no difference! :)

I love your style, and somehow (because your so sincere as it's been said) I'm under the impression I know you and I adore you. We'r all unique, but 'feels like you'r catching something!

There's a proverb in french : "la bave du crapaud n'atteint pas la blanche colombe", which litteraly said : "dribble of clamping plate don't reach white dove". It basicaly means that people who criticize this way just DON'T WORTH IT! Your the "white dove", you'r sooo much under this!
